Which categories require a license and when do I need to buy one?
Participants in the Nyon Triathlon must be in possession of a license (Swiss or foreign) in order to take part in the events. A daily license can be purchased at the time of registration on the Datasport platform, depending on the type of race:
- StartPASS: Olympic Distance (individual race), National League and Youth League
- EasyPASS: Duathlon, short distance and relays
- FunPASS: Discovery Triathlon and Aquathlon
Holders of a Swiss annual license (StartPASS) or a foreign triathlon license do not need to purchase a daily license.
Do I have to be a member of Swiss Triathlon to get a licence?
No, but the acquisition of a daily license at registration is equivalent to authorization to participate in an official Swiss Triathlon competition. All foreign licenses are accepted, without the need to purchase a Swiss Triathlon daily license.
Do I need a medical certificate to obtain a license?
No medical certificate is required, nor even proof of membership of a sports club.
Does a foreign license (e.g. French) exempt me from buying a Swiss license?
A foreign license effectively dispenses with the need to purchase a Swiss license to take part in Triathlon Series events.
I have a foreign licence, can I join the National and Youth League races?
A competition license from Swiss Triathlon (StartPass) or an ITU/ETU-affiliated foreign federation is compulsory for the following individual races affiliated to a national series: Youth League 14-15 and National League. You can register here.

Are there time limits for each discipline?
Yes, time limits are defined for the Short Distance and Olympic Distance categories (seerulespage). You are free to finish your race, but you do so on your own responsibility, on a course open to traffic and without the presence of volunteers or medical equipment; total timekeeping cannot be guaranteed.
When are neoprene wetsuits permitted/forbidden?
Wetsuits are forbidden if the water temperature is 22°C or higher, and compulsory if the water temperature is 15.9°C or lower. The decision is taken each race day by the referees and communicated by the speakers 1 hour before the start.
Are neoprene shorts and/or leggings allowed?
If neoprene wetsuits are not permitted – i.e. when the water temperature is 22°C or higher – neoprene shorts and leggings are also forbidden.
Do I need three participants to take part in the relay?
As a general rule, and to be on an equal footing with the other teams, it would be best if there were three of you. If you can’t find anyone, we can exceptionally accept only two of you in a relay. Note that running two of the three disciplines is only a problem if you swim, pass the baton to a cyclist and then the cyclist passes the baton to you to run.
What to do if you’re looking for someone to complete a relay team?
If you’re looking for a relay operator, we advise you to share the information on social networks.
Is it possible to take part with an electric bike?
The use of assisted and electric bicycles is prohibited.
